Lighthearted comedy/drama about a group of social misfits who take a tapdancing class together and find the sense of accomplishment and the friendships they make help them deal with the other problems in their lives. Liza Minnelli plays the dance teacher, who is dealing with her own issues, and she performs a couple of impressive solo dance numbers. Of course you knew Gene would be somebody evil, LOL, and he is - he's the abusive husband of a shy dance student who finds a champion in a geeky widower also attending the class. Predictable, but overall well-acted. I particularly enjoyed Julie Walters ("Educating Rita") as a completely tactless, neat-freak widow, and Ally McBeal fans will notice Jane Krakowski as another member of the troupe.
